Goals

The Environmental Protection Department as indicated in its Strategic Plan 2016-2025 has outlined four main goals. These are:

  • Goal 1: To understand our Environment
  • Goal 2: Protect our environment and human health from man-made sources of pollution
  • Goal 3: Foster Resource Efficiency and organization excellence
  • Goal 4: Promote Environmental Stewardship

These goals will be achieved by fulfilling a number of objectives for each goal.

Goal 1:

To understand our Environment

 

 

1.1

By 2020, identify and characterize the main sources of pollution to help identify solutions to existing and emerging environmental problems and inform decision making.

 

1.2

By 2020, identify and assess existing negative trends and practices in chemical management.

Goal 2:

Protect our environment and human health from man-made sources of pollution

 

2.1

By 2025, strengthen the legislative and policy framework for improved pollution control and prevention.

 

2.2

By 2025, reduce the risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials.

 

 

 

Goal 3: 

Foster Resource Efficiency and organization excellence

 

3.1

By 2020, improve access to funding for environmental monitoring and research initiatives.

 

3.2

By 2020, accelerate the provision of timely and tailored information to meet the specific needs of the public and stakeholder groups.

 

3.4

By 2025, develop our staff and position our organization to deliver the best environmental outcomes.

Promote Environmental Stewardship

 

4.1

By 2025, to engage the public in the protection and improvement of the environment.

 

4.2

By 2019, promote greater awareness of the impact of environmental quality on human health and quality of life.
